A New Preemption Policy for DiffServ-Aware Traffic Engineering to Minimize Rerouting
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper, a new preemption policy is proposed and complemented with an adaptive scheme that aims to minimize rerouting. The preemption policy combines the three main optimization criteria: number of LSPs to be preempted, priority of LSPs to be preempted, and amount of bandwidth to be preempted. The preemption policy is complemented by an adaptive scheme that selects LSPs with lower priority and reduces their rate in order to accommodate the new high-priority LSP setup request. Heuristics for both preemption and adaptive preemption policies are derived. Simulation results show the heuristics’ accuracy. Performance comparisons of a non-preemptive approach, our preemption policy, the adaptive rate policy, and the policy in use by commercial routers are included.

Traffic Engineering with Rerouting in Diffserv Mpls Networks
An important aspect of traffic engineering is the re-optimization of network resources. In this process, traffic over a congested path is rerouted to a new path to improve efficiency in network resource utilization. The aggregation nature of DiffServ MPLS networks often gives rise to long-lived flows within the network. A rerouting mechanism that supports the tearing-down of old connections and...

In MPLS networks, the higher-priority LSP (Label Switching Path) will preempt the resource of lowerpriority LSP when its bandwidth resource is limited. At the time, the lower-priority LSP is destroyed, and its bandwidth resource is released to the higher-priority LSP. The destroyed path has to be rerouted by selecting another LSP; the new LSP maybe quickly suffer another bandwidth resource pree...

The objective of traffic engineering is to optimize resource efficiency and network performance. Its study issue is to make the use of the available bandwidth in IP backbone networks effectively. MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) approach proposed by the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) is a new technology that facilitates significantly the process of traffic engineering. In MPLS netw...

This document describes how Resource ReserVation Protocol (RSVP) PathErr messages may be used to trigger rerouting of Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) and Generalized MPLS (GMPLS) point-to-point Traffic Engineering (TE) Label Switched Paths (LSPs) without first removing LSP state or resources. Such LSP rerouting may be desirable in a number of cases, including, for example, soft-preemption...

This article discusses a novel approach for realizing traffic engineering in the framework of new-generation multilayer networks based on the GMPLS paradigm. In particular, the proposed traffic engineering system is able to dynamically react to traffic changes while at the same time fulfilling QoS requirements for different classes of service. The proposed solution consists of a hybrid routing ...
